XIII Scientific and Professional Conference with International Participation “Planning and Normative Protection of Space and the Environment”, Hotel Srbija, Vršac, April 24-26, 2025

The Serbian Spatial Planners Association and the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Geography are organizing the 13th scientific and professional conference with international participation ‘PLANNING AND NORMATIVE PROTECTION OF SPACE AND THE ENVIRONMENT’ to be held from April 24 to 26, 2025, in Vršac (Hotel Srbija).

The conference will provide an opportunity for scientists and professionals involved in spatial planning, urban development, environmental protection, nature conservation, climate change, and related fields to gather and exchange experiences, alongside representatives of national and local government bodies and the non-governmental sector.

The organizers aim to address current challenges in planning and normative protection of space and the environment, the current state of planning documentation development and implementation in Serbia, the institutional and legal framework governing these documents, and the existing methodological framework through the exchange of knowledge and experiences.

In addition to the usual topics related to the legal and institutional framework for spatial and environmental protection, as well as improvements in methodologies for drafting plans, projects, and studies, this scientific-professional conference will place special emphasis on the challenges of climate change and its integration into spatial planning. The Green Agenda, transitioning from strategy to implementation, will also be in focus. Adaptation and mitigation of climate change through practical spatial planning solutions will be discussed, along with innovative technologies supporting the implementation of sustainable and contemporary solutions in line with the Green Agenda.

Special attention will be given to the work of young researchers. In a dedicated section, young professionals, as well as master’s and doctoral students, will present their research, with their papers published in a special electronic edition.

Considering the relevance of these topics and the broad range of scientific and professional approaches to solving these issues, this conference represents a unique opportunity to exchange scientific and professional experiences from Serbia and abroad, and to enhance methodologies and practices in spatial and environmental planning. Furthermore, it provides a platform to examine how adaptation and mitigation strategies for climate change, green transformation, sustainable solutions based on the Fourth Industrial Revolution and circular economy, as well as modern technologies and innovative solutions, can be implemented in the planning and protection of space and the environment.

Positive experiences from the previous twelve conferences, with more than 650 presented and published papers and over 5,500 pages of text in twelve proceedings, provide a strong foundation and motivation for organizing yet another successful conference.

Therefore, recognizing the significance and relevance of these topics, we invite you to contribute to the success of this conference by participating and helping formulate quality conclusions that will enable further advancement in planning, development, and protection of space, settlements, and the environment.
